IPTV on LG Smart TV: install a webOS player step by step

LG televisions run webOS, which has its own app store and a pointer remote. That makes typing a login easier than on most TVs, once you have picked the right player.

LG Smart TV IPTV setup guide: install IPTV Jacom step by step

IPTV on an LG Smart TV works through a player app from LG's own store, because webOS does not run Android apps. Older sets call the store LG Content Store; newer ones label it simply Apps. You install a player there, then type your IPTV Jacom details: server URL, username and password for an Xtream Codes login, or the M3U link if the app prefers a playlist. The Magic Remote helps here. You point at the keys like a mouse instead of stepping across the keyboard one letter at a time.

As with Samsung, LG's selection of IPTV players changes by region and year, so we describe what a good player looks like rather than promising one name. If the webOS store comes up empty as of 2026, the other ways section further down covers AirPlay, Screen Share and a plug-in stick that suits any LG with a free HDMI port.

Before step 1: have these ready

  • An LG Smart TV connected to the internet and signed in to an LG account
  • The IPTV Jacom welcome email, which holds the server URL, username, password and an M3U link
  • The Magic Remote with fresh batteries, or the LG ThinQ app paired on your phone
  • Steady internet at the TV: a cable is best, and Wi-Fi should test at 15 Mbps or better (25 for 4K)

Seven steps from the LG store to live channels

  1. Run a software update first

Press the gear button on the remote and choose All Settings, then Support, then Software Update. Older webOS versions keep the same option under General, About This TV. Install anything waiting and let the TV restart. The store only shows apps that support your webOS version, so an update can reveal players you would otherwise miss.

  2. Open the LG store and search "IPTV"

Press the Home button and open Apps (or LG Content Store on older sets). Select the search icon and type IPTV, or press the microphone button on the Magic Remote and say it. As of 2026, players such as IPTV Smarters Pro, SS IPTV, IBO Player and Smart IPTV have each appeared in LG's store in some regions; what your TV lists may differ.

  3. Choose a player that fits your login

Open each result and read the description. You want one that mentions Xtream Codes, M3U, or both, with a recent update date. Note any fee: some webOS players are free, others ask for a one-time or yearly payment to their developer after a short trial. Pick one, select Install, wait for the progress bar, then select Launch.

  4. Find the sign-in screen

Most players open on a menu with options like Xtream Codes, M3U URL or Add playlist. Choose Xtream Codes when it is offered, since it brings in the TV guide and the on-demand library in one go. If the screen instead shows a MAC address and a website, write both down and do step 5 on your phone or computer rather than the TV.

  5. Enter the login with the pointer or your phone

Point the Magic Remote at each key and click the scroll wheel to type. Copy the server URL exactly, including http:// and the port number, then the username and password; capital letters count. Faster still: open the LG ThinQ app, pick your TV, and use its keyboard to send whole words. For website activation, enter the MAC address on the player's site and paste the M3U link from your email.

  6. Let the channels load and check the guide

Confirm with Login, Save or Connect, whichever your player uses. The first load reads 55,000+ channels and can take a couple of minutes on a TV processor. Open a channel in your province's local group, then the guide view. If the guide is blank, look for Update EPG or Refresh in the player's settings.

  7. Pin the player and save favourites

On the Home screen, hold the wheel on the player's tile, then drag it to the front of the row or choose Edit App List, depending on your webOS version. Inside the player, mark the channels you watch most as favourites. With a lineup this size, five minutes of favourites saves a lot of scrolling later. The channel list helps you find the right category names.

Other ways to watch IPTV on an LG TV

Three routes work when no webOS player suits you: AirPlay from Apple devices, Screen Share from Android phones and Windows laptops, and a stick plugged into an HDMI port. Only the stick is truly comfortable for daily viewing.

Our iPhone and Apple TV guide shows the AirPlay steps in detail. For the stick route, follow the Fire TV Stick setup and switch on SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) in the LG settings so the Magic Remote also controls the stick.

LG webOS IPTV troubleshooting

Most LG issues clear up with a full power cycle, a reinstall, or a change in the player's settings. Pick the symptom that matches yours.

The player crashes or opens on a black screen

Unplug the TV from the wall for one full minute. LG televisions with Quick Start+ turned on never fully shut down, so small glitches can pile up over days. If the trouble returns, remove the app (hold the wheel on its tile, then the delete option) and install it again. webOS has no per-app clear-cache button on most models, so a reinstall is the reset.

Sound plays but the picture stays black

Look in the player's settings for the video player or stream format option and switch it, for example from HLS to MPEG-TS. Our black screen and no sound fix covers the other common causes.

Hockey looks smeary or jumpy

Open the picture options and try TruMotion on a low or smooth setting. Also check that the TV is wired or close to the router; dropped frames often come from weak Wi-Fi, not the TV.

IPTV on LG TV: common questions

Is IPTV Smarters Pro available on LG TVs?

Sometimes. As of 2026, a webOS version of IPTV Smarters Pro has appeared in LG's store in some regions, but not everywhere and not every year. Search the store on your own TV to see what is listed today. If Smarters is missing, any webOS player that accepts Xtream Codes or M3U works with your IPTV Jacom login.

Does the TV guide work in LG IPTV apps?

Yes, in most webOS players that sign in with Xtream Codes, because the guide data arrives together with the channels. Players that only read an M3U link may need a separate EPG address, which we can send. Our answer to does IPTV have a TV guide explains how EPG data works.

Which LG TVs support AirPlay for IPTV?

Most LG televisions from 2019 onward, plus several 2018 models, list AirPlay on the Home dashboard. Start a channel in a player on your iPhone or iPad, open Control Centre, tap Screen Mirroring and choose the LG set. The stream still comes from the phone, so keep it charged and on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.

Can I try IPTV on my LG TV before I pay?

Yes. Ask for the free 24-hour trial and you get a login that works in any webOS player that takes Xtream Codes or M3U. Install the player, sign in with the trial details, and test your favourite channels on the TV itself. If you like it, pick a plan in CAD, pay by Interac e-Transfer and swap in the new username and password.
